Trophy Mule
Deer Hunt Opportunity
We are offering a fourth season one-on-one trophy mule deer hunt
for Unit 22 (Hunt Code DM-022-04-R). These tags will require several
preference points to draw and we will only have 2 hunts available
in 2009. Please call or write for details.
ARCHERY:
Archery hunting at Nine Mile is fabulous! Our bow hunters experience
nearly 100% shot opportunity rates on legal bulls (4 points or better
on one side). In our area, private-land archery elk tags are over-the-counter.
In the mornings we typically walk and call, and you can expect to
hear numerous bulls bugling each morning. In fact, when conditions
are right, it's not uncommon to hear nearly a dozen bulls a day.
In the evenings, we sit on one of many strategically placed tree
stands or platform stands watching wallows, water holes, or agricultural
fields. All stands are placed with the hunter's best opportunities
in mind and provide close-up encounters with the elk. Our guides
are archers themselves and know what it takes to get you in close
to that bull you've been waiting for and get you a good close shot.
Many of our archery hunters have several opportunities at legal
bulls in the course of a 5-day hunt. The physical demands on this
hunt are fairly easy, as far as elk hunting goes, but you should
be prepared to walk 1-3 miles a day at an elevation of 7000'- 8000'.
All hunters are asked to be proficient shooting fixed broadheads
out to at least 30 yards. Most shots are close, but the more comfortable
you are at shooting out to 30 yards, the better your chances of
success will be. If you've hunted other places and found slow action
in archery season, then this is the place to come. We've got elk!
Archery elk licenses are either sex over-the-counter sales in our
hunting areas. Bowhunting for mule deer is available on a limited
basis at Nine Mile, so if you're interested, please contact us for
availability.
RIFLE HUNTING:
ELK
If the bow hunting here is "fabulous" then the rifle hunting must
be unbelievable. It's not uncommon for some of our hunters to actually
see elk in the hundreds here during the rifle season. Rifle hunters
also experience nearly 100% shot opportunity. Along with a good
herd of "seasonal elk" that live here during the late summer and
early fall, we are also smack dab in the middle of one of the largest
migration routes of elk in the country. For those hunters who are
able to walk 1-3 miles a day and can shoot their rifles accurately
out to 300 yards, opportunities abound. With ranches at several
different locations ranging in elevation and terrain, we can assure
you a good opportunity at the elk, no matter what mother nature
throws our way. All rifle hunting is spot-and-stalk. We get around
in 4-wheel-drive trucks and on foot; no horses or 4-wheelers here
at Nine Mile.
If delicious
elk meat is what you're after, we also have affordable cow elk hunts
available after the last rifle bull elk hunting, with extremely
high success rates.
First- and
fourth-season bull licenses are a draw in our hunting areas but
we typically experience 100% draw success. Second- and third-season
bull licenses are sold over the counter.
MULE DEER:
Our success rate is typically 100% on mature mule deer bucks! Mature
mule deer bucks are hard to come by in this day and age, and we
take pride in our mule deer here at Nine Mile. We manage our herd
strictly for mature bucks. Our deer hunts are limited to ensure
that plenty of quality bucks will be here for you and for hunters
in years to come. Our bucks average 24"-29" with many scoring between
150" and 180." Larger bucks are possible on any day on any of our
leases. Typically, our bucks are all 4x4's or better, with great
mass and often a sticker or two somewhere on the rack. Our deer
herd is healthy, and actually on the rise. It's not uncommon for
a hunter to pass on a dozen or more bucks during a hunt waiting
to find just the right one.
All Mule Deer
licenses are by draw in Colorado and we typically experience 100%
draw success.
